🚨 Rapid-Fire News You Need Right Now

Thiago

Semenyo
Before we get into the transfers, here are the key headlines shaping your GW28 decisions:
Mbeumo limped off during GW27 and is a major injury concern ahead of the Friday deadline. He was the recommended captain pick last gameweek, but his fitness must be monitored closely before you lock in your armband. More on this below.
Šeško (Man Utd) only played 32 minutes against Everton but still scored - Michael Carrick has been talking about minutes management for the striker, which is worth watching if you're planning to bring him in.
Newcastle's Eddie Howe has flagged concerns around Gordon and Botman - both are worth monitoring before the weekend.
Liverpool beat Nottingham Forest 1-0 and now travel to West Ham in GW28 - a very tasty fixture for Reds assets.
Arsenal thrashed Spurs 4-1 away and host Chelsea in GW28. Chelsea carry a difficulty rating of 5 away from home, making that fixture tricky for Blues assets.
🛡️ GW27 Top Defensive Performers
It's Wednesday, which means we're spotlighting the best defensive contributions from Gameweek 27. Here are the standouts you need to know about:
O'Reilly (Man City) - 17 Points 🔥
The GW27 defensive star of the show. Two goals, a clean sheet, and three bonus points. At just £5.0m and only 7.6% ownership, O'Reilly is an absolute FPL phenomenon. He now has 117 total points on the season, with 4 goals and 3 assists to his name. His expected points for GW28 against Leeds are 8.7. This is a differential that keeps on delivering.
Mitchell (Crystal Palace) - 11 Points
Mitchell delivered an assist, a clean sheet, and two bonus points in GW27. He's been one of the most reliable budget defenders all season with 105 total points, 1 goal, and 1 assist. Crystal Palace travel to Man Utd in GW28 - a fixture to consider for his outlook.
Virgil (Liverpool) - 11 Points
Virgil van Dijk also hit 11 points with an assist, clean sheet, and two bonus points. Liverpool host West Ham at home on Saturday - another excellent opportunity for the Liverpool captain to deliver. He's racked up 122 total points this season with 2 goals and 1 assist.
✅ Top 3 Transfers IN for Gameweek 28
1. O'Reilly - Man City DEF | £5.0m | 7.6% Ownership
VERDICT: ESSENTIAL - Get him in immediately.
If you don't have O'Reilly, this is your number one priority. He scored two goals against Newcastle in GW27, has 117 total points on the season, and faces Leeds in GW28 - a side that has conceded heavily. With 10 clean sheets, 4 goals, and 3 assists this season, his attacking and defensive output at just £5.0m is extraordinary. His expected points of 8.7 for GW28 are among the highest for any defender this week. At 7.6% ownership, he's also one of the biggest differentials in the game right now. This one is non-negotiable.
2. Virgil - Liverpool DEF | £6.0m | 25.7% Ownership
VERDICT: ESSENTIAL - Fix it now if you don't own him.
Virgil is one of the most reliable defensive assets in the game. Eleven points in GW27, 9 clean sheets this season, and Liverpool host West Ham at home on Saturday - a very winnable fixture. His expected points of 8.5 for GW28 back up what his season stats already suggest: this is a premium defender delivering premium returns. At £6.0m and 25.7% ownership, he's widely held but still absolutely worth owning. His form rating of 8.0 speaks for itself.
3. Hill - Bournemouth DEF | £4.1m | 5.4% Ownership
VERDICT: ESSENTIAL for the price point.
Nearly 100,000 transfers in this gameweek - the FPL community has spotted Hill. Six points in GW27 with a clean sheet, and Bournemouth host Sunderland in GW28 which is a very favourable fixture. His form rating is 7.2, he has 4 clean sheets this season, and his expected points of 7.2 for next gameweek are excellent for a £4.1m defender. If you're tight on budget and need a cheap defensive option that actually scores points, Hill is your answer.
❌ Top 3 Transfers OUT for Gameweek 28
1. Mbeumo - SELL if no positive fitness news by Friday
This one hurts. Mbeumo was the recommended captain pick last gameweek, but he limped off during GW27 and is now a major injury concern. With the deadline on Friday evening, you simply cannot afford to wait too long. If there is no positive fitness update before you need to make your moves, sell. The uncertainty alone makes him a risk you shouldn't carry into GW28. Monitor the news closely - if he gets the all-clear, you could hold. But if it goes to the wire, don't gamble.
2. Wan-Bissaka - West Ham DEF | £4.1m | 4.6% Ownership
VERDICT: SELL.
Wan-Bissaka picked up 6 points in GW27 thanks to the clean sheet, but the underlying numbers are poor. Just 2 clean sheets all season, a points-per-game of just 3.0, and now West Ham face Liverpool at home in GW28 - that is not a fixture you want your defenders in. His own teammate Diouf returned 9 points this gameweek at just £4.0m. If you need to free up funds or upgrade your West Ham slot, the move away from Wan-Bissaka makes sense.
3. Rayan - Bournemouth MID | £5.6m | 1.9% Ownership
VERDICT: SELL.
Only 3 points in GW27 despite the Bournemouth clean sheet. Just 2 goals and 1 assist all season at a price tag of £5.6m - that is a steep price for the returns he's delivering. With far better options available at similar or lower price points, Rayan is very difficult to justify in your squad. Move him on and reinvest those funds into a more productive asset.
🎯 Differential Picks for GW28 (All Under 10% Ownership)
Looking to steal a march on your mini-league rivals? Here are three players under 10% ownership who have genuine big-haul potential in Gameweek 28:
Konaté - Liverpool DEF | £5.4m | 3.6% Ownership
Nine points in GW27 with a clean sheet and bonus - and already 43,000 transfers in this week. Konaté has featured in 9 of Liverpool's clean sheets this season and is almost a carbon copy of Virgil at a lower price. Liverpool host West Ham in GW28 with expected points of 7.3. If you can't stretch to Virgil or want to double up on Liverpool defence on the cheap, Konaté is the move. He has 108 total points on the season.
Dalot - Man Utd DEF | £4.5m | 4.7% Ownership
Seven points this gameweek including a clean sheet and bonus against Everton. Dalot contributes at both ends with 6 clean sheets and 6 assists this season - genuinely impressive for a £4.5m defender. Man Utd host Crystal Palace in GW28 with 6 expected points. Flying under the radar and offering real value for the price.
Šeško - Man Utd FWD | £7.2m | 3.8% Ownership
Came off the bench for just 32 minutes against Everton and still scored, picking up 3 bonus points for a total of 8 in GW27. He now has 7 goals this season and Michael Carrick is clearly a big fan. With Man Utd at home to Crystal Palace in GW28 and 6.3 expected points, if Šeško starts and gets full minutes, the ceiling is very high. A high-risk, high-reward differential for those chasing down their mini-league rivals.
🏴 GW28 Captain Pick
With Mbeumo's fitness uncertain, the captaincy decision is actually pretty straightforward this week.
O'Reilly is your GW28 captain. Man City away at Leeds, 8.7 expected points, two goals last gameweek, and in the form of his life. At £5.0m, he's the most in-form defender in FPL and the value he offers with the armband is exceptional.
If you don't own O'Reilly yet, Virgil is your safe backup captaincy option - Liverpool at home to West Ham with huge attacking threat from set pieces. Both are excellent choices, but O'Reilly is the call this week.

📋 GW28 Quick-Fire Checklist
✅ Get O'Reilly in - essential transfer, captain pick, and differential all in one
✅ Own Virgil - Liverpool home to West Ham is a dream fixture for the big Dutchman
✅ Consider Hill as a budget defensive enabler at just £4.1m
✅ Sell Mbeumo unless positive fitness news arrives before Friday evening
✅ Ditch Wan-Bissaka - West Ham vs Liverpool is not a fixture for defensive assets
✅ Move on from Rayan - the £5.6m price tag is not justified by his returns
✅ Look at Konaté as a budget Liverpool defence alternative (£5.4m, 3.6% owned)
✅ Šeško is your spicy differential - huge ceiling if he starts vs Crystal Palace
