His expected points of 8.7 for GW28 are among the highest for any defender this week. At 7.6% ownership, he's also one of the biggest differentials in the game right now. This one is non-negotiable.

VERDICT: ESSENTIAL - Fix it now if you don't own him.

Virgil is one of the most reliable defensive assets in the game. Eleven points in GW27, 9 clean sheets this season, and Liverpool host West Ham at home on Saturday - a very winnable fixture. His expected points of 8.5 for GW28 back up what his season stats already suggest: this is a premium defender delivering premium returns. At £6.0m and 25.7% ownership, he's widely held but still absolutely worth owning. His form rating of 8.0 speaks for itself.

If you're tight on budget and need a cheap defensive option that actually scores points, Hill is your answer.

This one hurts. Mbeumo was the recommended captain pick last gameweek, but he limped off during GW27 and is now a major injury concern. With the deadline on Friday evening, you simply cannot afford to wait too long. If there is no positive fitness update before you need to make your moves, sell. The uncertainty alone makes him a risk you shouldn't carry into GW28. Monitor the news closely - if he gets the all-clear, you could hold. But if it goes to the wire, don't gamble.

Wan-Bissaka picked up 6 points in GW27 thanks to the clean sheet, but the underlying numbers are poor. Just 2 clean sheets all season, a points-per-game of just 3.0, and now West Ham face Liverpool at home in GW28 - that is not a fixture you want your defenders in. His own teammate Diouf returned 9 points this gameweek at just £4.0m. If you need to free up funds or upgrade your West Ham slot, the move away from Wan-Bissaka makes sense.

VERDICT: SELL.

Only 3 points in GW27 despite the Bournemouth clean sheet. Just 2 goals and 1 assist all season at a price tag of £5.6m - that is a steep price for the returns he's delivering. With far better options available at similar or lower price points, Rayan is very difficult to justify in your squad. Move him on and reinvest those funds into a more productive asset.

Konaté has featured in 9 of Liverpool's clean sheets this season and is almost a carbon copy of Virgil at a lower price. Liverpool host West Ham in GW28 with expected points of 7.3. If you can't stretch to Virgil or want to double up on Liverpool defence on the cheap, Konaté is the move. He has 108 total points on the season.

Seven points this gameweek including a clean sheet and bonus against Everton. Dalot contributes at both ends with 6 clean sheets and 6 assists this season - genuinely impressive for a £4.5m defender. Man Utd host Crystal Palace in GW28 with 6 expected points. Flying under the radar and offering real value for the price.

Came off the bench for just 32 minutes against Everton and still scored, picking up 3 bonus points for a total of 8 in GW27. He now has 7 goals this season and Michael Carrick is clearly a big fan. With Man Utd at home to Crystal Palace in GW28 and 6.3 expected points, if Šeško starts and gets full minutes, the ceiling is very high. A high-risk, high-reward differential for those chasing down their mini-league rivals.

With Mbeumo's fitness uncertain, the captaincy decision is actually pretty straightforward this week.

If you don't own O'Reilly yet, Virgil is your safe backup captaincy option - Liverpool at home to West Ham with huge attacking threat from set pieces. Both are excellent choices, but O'Reilly is the call this week.
